coloring pages are a fun way for kids to practice geometry and pre-writing
skills. The pages are also designed to inspire kids to be creative.
The tangram is a
dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put
together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific
shape using all seven pieces, which may not overlap. Manipulating the tans
stimulates spatial awareness.
Being able to
control the pencil is an important pre-writing development. The background of
these worksheets has been created to develop those fine motor skills required
to control the pencil in the path of motions needed for writing.
All art comes from
a point of inspiration. The subject and a few tracing lines on the background
aregiven to inspire your students.
There is plenty of white space for them to personalize the worksheet by adding
their own details and/or drawings.
Included are 15
puzzles. Each puzzle has 2 options:
Easy - The outlines
of each puzzle piece are shown
Hard - The outline
of the tangram shape is shown
The puzzles are
suitable for 4-inch tangrams sets (printer settings: 100%). You can use the
provided printable puzzle pieces or buy a plastic or wooden tangram set. I have
purchased my tangram set on www.enasco.com
(4 sets: red, green, yellow, blue for $ 2,20)
parallelogram. The puzzles in this pack have been specifically selected for
First students solve
the puzzle, than they have to flip the parallelogram. Question: How many other
tans do you need to slide, flip or turn to solve the puzzle again? A recording
sheet is provided.
For this assignment, the children have to use their imagination. As long
as they stick to the modern rules of the Tangram game* and the end
result resembles a face, they can’t go wrong.
First the children are shown 8 puzzles with Jack-o’-lantern faces
(level: very easy). Then they have to cut out the puzzle pieces and try
to create their own tangram face.
While playing with the puzzle pieces, the children practice their fine
motor skills by using scissors and cutting out the shapes at the bottom
of the worksheet to glue onto the pumpkin in the middle and spatial
awareness plus transformations (translation/slide, reflection/flip,
rotation/turn) by creating a new face.
This pack is great for centers / stations, early finishers and indoor
recess. It can be used on it's own, but it is also suitable as an
addition to one of my other Halloween tangram puzzle packs. You can find
the ‘math mats & puzzle cards’ , ‘puzzle cards only’ and
‘PowerPoint’ packs in my store.
Tip: You can use the creations of the children to decorate real pumpkins.
*Use all seven pieces, they must lie flat and may not overlap.

The activities require students to use the grid code / coloring
directions and crayons or markers to create various images on a 19x19

vertical axis to introduce young students to coordinate pairs without
the confusion of the standard (h,v) format.

This pack was
designed to be a complementary tangram set to the ‘Classic
Collection 1 - Puzzle Cards’, but it can also be used on its own. The
provided 4 inch puzzle pieces will fit perfectly onto the math mats. If your
kids find it hard to recreate the tangram shapes next to the puzzle cards, this
pack will be a great help. Using both packs* (cards & mats) together makes
it easy for you to differentiate.
